Hours worked in excess of the stipulated duty hours are called overtime hours. Companies pay their employees for the hours they have worked in excess. It is called overtime pay.
Overtime Pays are usually higher than the usual hourly pay to encourage the employees. This helps the employees to complete the work on time and hence help the company to achieve their targets.
Some companies also deduct the hours/minutes employees work less from their working hours. Usually, the working hours are 8-9 hours.
Usually, overtime hourly rate is fixed. The number of hours worked in excess are calculated the amount is given to employees.
The hours can be calculated from the timesheet of employees. The timesheet records the “In Time” as well as “Out Time” of the employees.

Contents of Overtime Calculator Apple Numbers Template
Overtime Calculator consists of 2 sections:
- Employee Details Section
- Timesheet and Overtime Calculation Sections
1. Employee Details Section
This section consists of following items:
Employee Name: Name of the employee.
Month: Month for which overtime is calculated.
Year: Year for which overtime is calculated.
Working Hours: Total Working hour set by the company.
Hours: Total Overtime hours
Rate/Hr: Rate per hour for overtime.
Total OT: Total Amount of overtime.
Enter the above details to assist you in the calculation in the overtime calculation section.
2. Timesheet and Overtime Calculation Section
This section contains following columns:
Date: Enter the date for which the time is to be entered
In: In Time needs to be entered along with the date first. Like “DD/MM/YYYY HH: MM”. The reason behind this is that Numbers doesn’t record only time. It records along with the date. Thus for calculation purpose enter the date in given format.
Out: For Out Time also the similar format will be applicable as In time.
Hours: This cell will automatically calculate the total hours worked for that particular date.
Overtime: It will calculate the number of hours and minutes worked over the working hours. The formula used here is IF(D12=””,””,H12−9). If your working hours are different then change the last digit to your total numbers of working hours.
Rate/Hr: Rate per hour will automatically display as given by you in the employee details section.
Amount: The cell contains a predefined formula. It will automatically calculate the total amount of overtime for that particular day.
Lastly, it consists of the totals number of overtime hours and the total amount which is reflected in the employee details section.
