How To Use: RANK Function

How To Use: RANK Function

The RANK function returns the rank of a number within an array or set numbers without sorting the numbers.

RANK is an inbuilt function in Excel. It is under the category of Statistical Functions. As a worksheet function, you can enter the RANK function as part of a formula in a cell of a worksheet.

This function determines the relative position or order of one value in a given range of data.

Thus, it is not necessary to sort data in either ascending or descending order to see the rankings of values in a given range of data.

Syntax for RANK Function

=RANK(number,ref,[order])

Arguments

Number: The number whose rank you want to find.

Ref: An array of, or a reference to, a list of numbers. Non-numeric values in ref are ignored.
