The COMPLEX function converts real and imaginary coefficients into a complex number. This Function converts the number in form of x + yi or x + yj.
The COMPLEX function is an inbuilt function in Excel. It falls under the category of Engineering Functions.
As a worksheet function, you can use the COMPLEX function as a part of the formula in a cell.
Syntax for COMPLEX Function
=COMPLEX(real_num, i_num, [suffix])
Arguments
Real_num: The real component or coefficient of the complex number.
I_num: The imaginary component or coefficient of the complex number.
Suffix: This is an optional argument. The Suffix for the imaginary component of the complex number.
Suffix argument when omitted it is assumed to be “i”. The Suffix argument is case sensitive and doesn’t accept “I” nor “J” in uppercase.
We have created the infographics for the COMPLEX Function. With the help of these infographics, you can easily learn step by step process for using this excel functions.
Furthermore, Excel consists of many inbuilt functions which are helpful in the analytical and statistical study of number.
Simply follow the instructions in the infographics below:
Errors
#VALUE! error occurs when the real_num and the i_num arguments are nonnumerical.
#VALUE! error occurs when the suffix is neither “i” nor “j”.
Using the suffix argument in uppercase (capital letters) will also result in #VALUE! error.
