How To Use: FLOOR Function

FLOOR Function returns a number rounded down based on a multiple of significance. In other words, it rounds the number down, toward zero, to the nearest multiple of significance.

The FLOOR Function is an inbuilt function in Excel in the Math/Trig Functions. You can enter the FLOOR function as part of a formula in a cell of a worksheet.

This function rounds a supplied number towards zero to the nearest multiple of a specified significance.

Syntax for FLOOR Function

=FLOOR (number, multiple)

Arguments

Number: The number that you wish to round down.
Significance: The multiple of significance that you wish to round a number to.

The sign of the number and the significance parameters should match. Otherwise, the FLOOR function will return the #NUM! error.

#VALUE! error occurs when one or both of the supplied arguments are non-numeric.

If the supplied significance argument = 0 then it will return #DIV/0! error.

The significance argument must have the same arithmetic sign as the number argument in Excel 2003 and Excel 2007. In later versions of Excel, the Floor function has been improved.
