How To Use: BASE Function

The BASE function which converts a number into a text representation with the given base. The BASE function was only introduced in Excel 2013 and so is not available in earlier versions of Excel.

Syntax of the BASE Function

=BASE(number,radix,[min_length])

Arguments

Number: The number that you want to convert should be an integer = 0 and < 2^53).
Radix: The base that you want to convert the supplied number should be an integer equal to or greater than 2 and should not exceed 36.
Min_length: This argument is optional. It specifies the minimum length of the returned string and it also should be an integer = 0 and < 256.

This function gives a #NUM error when the above criteria for number, radix or min_length are not fulfilled. It will give #Value error when the supplied arguments are non-numeric.

If the converted number is shorter than the value of [min_length], the result is padded out with leading zeros.

If any of the supplied arguments are decimal values, the function truncates them to integers.
