QUOTIENT Function returns the integer portion of a division. You can use this function when you want to discard the remainder of a division.

In simple terms, QUOTIENT function returns the integer portion of a division between two supplied numbers.

The QUOTIENT Function is an inbuilt function in Excel. It is categorized as Math & Trig Function.

Syntax for QUOTIENT function

=QUOTIENT(numerator, denominator)

Arguments

Numerator: The number to be divided.

Denominator: The value that divides the numerator.

Both the above arguments in this function are mandatory.

You can use this function as a worksheet function. You can enter QUOTIENT function as part of a formula in a cell of a worksheet.

The QUOTIENT function in Excel can be used to carry out a division operation on two numbers, but it will only return the integer portion (whole number only) as a result – not the remainder.

There is no “division” function in Excel that will give you both whole number and decimal portions of an answer.

#DIV/0! error occurs if the supplied denominator argument is zero.
#VALUE! error occurs if any of the supplied arguments are non-numeric.
