POWER function returns the result of a number raised to a given power.

In other words, the POWER Function calculates a given number, raised to a supplied power.

The POWER function is an inbuilt function in Excel. It falls under the category of Math/Trig Functions.

As a worksheet function, you can enter the POWER function as part of a formula in a cell of a worksheet.

Syntax for POWER Function

=POWER(number,power)

Arguments

Number: The base number. It can be any real number.

Power: The exponent to which the base number is raised.

Number and Power both arguments are mandatory. Both arguments are numerical values that can be supplied to the Function.

The power of a number says how many times to multiply that number by itself. The number is called the base.

They can either be supplied directly or as values returned from other functions or as references to cells containing the numbers.

The “^” operator can be used instead of POWER to indicate to what power the base number is to be raised.

Errors

#VALUE! error occurs when either of the supplied arguments is non-numeric.

#NUM! error occurs when the cell reference is blank.
